George Mure
1939: Born in London to Scottish parents.
During the war he was boarded to a relative in Norfolk where he learned to row and fish. In 1947 his mother remarried and she moved to Kenya. He attended a boarding school in England and had holidays in Kenya.
His holidays in Kenya involved boating, swimming and fishing. He painted fish he had speared and won an art prize. He became hooked on fishing. He wanted to become a fisherman.
After his school years he left for Australia. He worked as a jackeroo, fisherman and a fish filleter in Tasmania.
He returned to England. Royal Agriculture College in Cirencester.
1962: George married Jill and they sailed to Australia.
1962: Worked for a fish marketing company. Bought a house in Tasmania.
1964: Son William was born.
1965: Went to WA. Bought a lobster boat.
1965: Daughter Sarah born.
Many adventures involving boats, seas, fish, shell fish.
1973: Bought a house in Battery Point. Opened a fish restaurant.
1985: Began selling fish on the docks.
2003: George has passed on but Mures continues. It is a family business and a Tasmanian institution.
