1889: Founded as an alternative to the Tasmanian Club. The Tasmanian Club was seen as a club for landholders. Urban business men wanted their club. Housed in house called Lalla Rook.
 
1904: Moved to premises specially built for club.  Provides social and emotional activities for members.
 
2019: Sex of members was irrelevant.
 
Today: A private club for members which has reciprocity with many other clubs.
Décor, food, service, attitudes, dress, activities are all historic Tasmanian.
