1823: Convicted at Gloucester for receiving stolen goods. Sentenced to 14 years transportation.
The ship Asia 11 arrived in Hobart on 19.1.1824. 163 days to sail. All male convicts. He left a wife and child behind in England.

1833: William Champion was the licence for Jolly Hatters Inn. William Champion ran the pub, brewed his own beer and ran a hat business.
1833-1850: The Inn was a place where employees would arrive early in the morning and select their workers for the day from the gathered throngs.
The Inn became a place where unions began to develop.
The Inn was also a departing point for a march with the aim of ending transportation.
1834: His parents and two sisters came to Hobart as free settlers.

1847: Eight bells arrived from England for Holy Trinity Church. William trained and led the first team of bell ringers.
Today: Buildings leased by Alphacrucis College. A Christian college.
