Franklin Square
1811: Governor Lachlan Macquarie created Georges Square in honour of the king of the British Empire.
1817: Free men and women, convict men and women were assembled on different days in the square in order to be counted.
1853: Transportation ended. The parade and muster grounds became a public park. It was called Franklin Square.
1860: Supreme court was built on Franklin Square. Still used as a court.

Criminal cases in Hobart penitentiary.
1884: Supreme court extended. Now offices of Department of Premier and cabinet.
1923: Renovations. Pond, paving, garden beds.
1942: Air raid trenches were dug.
1964: Fountain with multiple jets and coloured lights.

Aboriginal and historical European ships.
William Crowther. Premier of Tasmania from 1878-1879. A doctor. He is notorious for being interested in human skulls and relating them to intelligence, personality and criminal behaviour. Including aboriginal skulls.
Sir John Franklin: Governor of Van Diemens Land from 1837-1843. Center of the fountain. His widow had the sculpture made.
He left the post of Governor broken and exhausted. In order to redeem himself he set out to find the Northwest passage. He went missing in the artic. Never to be found.
King Edward VII 1901-1910.
