1810: Henry Pearce born in Whitechapel, London, England.
1828: Henry Pearce lived in the Whitechapel area of East London. He was transported to V.D.L. for stealing lead from the nearby London Hospital.
1829: Henry Pearce arrives in VDL as a convict.
1837: Marries Sarah Hurst in St John's Church, New Town.
Henry worked hard. He began working in a market garden in New Town. Then he transported produce from his land in the Huon Valley to Hobart then exported/imported overseas.
He bought ships and built and bought warehouses at Salamanca. He eventually owned 5/6 warehouses in Salamanca Place.
His sons worked with him and continued his legacy in the farming, trading, shipping and business arenas.
1844: Henry built Poplarville in Risdon Road.
1844: Marries Mary Ann Heath in in James Gloster's residence, Elizabeth Street, Hobart
1861-1867: Mr. Henry Pearce was elected to fill the office of Alderman.
1861: Henry Pearce’s appointed as a J.P.
1901: Henry dies at age 90 in Poplarville, Risdon Road.
In total he had 14 Children: Ten sons. Four daughters.

John Pearce was successful in business. He built Maylands.
1885/1887: Maylands designed and built by colonial architect Henry Hunter. The original Maylands consisted of approximately 7 acres bounded by Pirie and Swanston Streets, and Bay Road. Of the original gardens 1.5 acres of grounds remain.
When Maylands was built it had many exciting new innovations.
Gas chandeliers, electric bells to summon servants, an internal holding tank to furnish running water, an internal atrium lit by a skylight through a lantern of coloured glass.

1924: The Hobart Girls’ Industrial School was relocated to Maylands.
